Samuel D. Carpenter is of counsel to the Firm and a former shareholder. He was born in 1931 in Columbus, Ohio. In 1953 he graduated from Ohio University and then served two years as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. He graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 1958 and joined the Firm the same year.

Sam's practice is primarily in estate planning, real estate, probate and trust administration and some litigation in those areas.

He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the Calhoun County Bar Association. He served six years on the council of the Probate and Estate Planning Law Section. He has served for many years on the Probate Section's Committee on Special Projects. He was also a delegate for two terms (6 years) to the State Bar Representative Assembly and served for six years on the State Bar Judicial Qualifications Committee and has served for many years on the State Bar Character and Fitness Committee (Region G). He served for two terms (6 years) as Council Member, including 3 years as Secretary, of the Senior Lawyers Section of the State Bar of Michigan.

Sam is a member of the Christian Legal Society and active in many community organizations.

He and his wife, Helga, and all four of their children are graduates of the University of Michigan.
